FX people moves: HSBC hires global head of FX cash trading

Johnson steps in to take global FX role at HSBC

Following the departure of Gary Nettleingham HSBC has hired Mark Johnson as head of FX cash trading.

Johnson will join the bank on August 9 and will be based in London. He will report to Frederic Boillereau, global head of foreign exchange and metals and will be a member of the GFX management committee.

Johnson joins from Johnson Stewart Partners, a specialist FX trading house for institutional investors established in 2004, where he was the founding managing partner and chief investment officer.

Prior to this, he was at Deutsche Bank, which he joined in 1995. He held a succession of senior global markets roles including global head of FX forwards and short-term interest rate trading and then was made responsible for FX trading risk globally. In this role he was responsible for the revenues and risk management of over 140 traders worldwide.

Nick Beecroft, now senior markets consultant at Saxo, to whom Johnson reported at one point during his time at Deutsche, told the theweeklyFiX; “HSBC has made a great hire. Mark has an outstanding grasp of the technicalities of FX risk management and all the pre-requisites for building a pre-eminent customer-focused business.”
