Trichet surfaces as chairman of think-tank

Ex-president of the ECB revealed as the chairman of G30

Jean-Claude Trichet, the former president of the European Central Bank (ECB), is the new chairman of Group of Thirty (G30), the international forum of public and private sector financial leaders.

Trichet, who stepped down after eight years as ECB president on October 31, succeeds Jacob Frenkel, chairman of JPMorgan Chase International and former governor of the Bank of Israel, who has headed the G30 since 2000.

Frenkel is now the chairman of the group's board of trustees, succeeding Paul Volcker, former chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System, who now becomes chairman emeritus of the G30.

“This is a time of exceptional challenges to the global economic and financial system, and the G30 will continue to make significant contributions to the policy debate and enhance understanding of the critical paths to stability and to economic growth,” says Trichet.

The G30 was established in 1978 and is a private, non-profit "international body composed of very senior representatives of the private and public sectors and academia".
