Renaissance Capital is full of clever, hard-working people capable of working long hours in flea-bitten markets.
But some individuals are more equal than others at the Moscow-based group.
One such is Jeremy Sparrow. Content to bump along for seven years in London, latterly as RenCap’s head of international sales, Sparrow surprised many in 2008 by offering to run the group’s new Hong Kong offices.

He made the step-up with ease. RenCap’s Asia CEO now oversees a team of 150 people acting as a link between China, Russia and Africa. RenCap’s small investment banking team completed its first major China initial equities deal in December 2011, co-underwriting the $142.5 million Hong Kong listing of China Polymetallic Mining.
Sparrow, 45, has succeeded above all because he transferred his skills to Asia without losing his chief underlying quality. "He stands out because he is a really nice guy who gets on with everyone and does his job really well," says a colleague.
