Société Générale has built a strong franchise in structured products in conventional finance, winning the Euromoney award for best global structured products house in 2011, for example.
Société Générale first started offering Islamic money-market instruments (via commodity murabaha transactions) more than 30 years ago. In recent years its offering has increased dramatically, and it has launched a number of innovative products including two capital-protected mutual funds in Saudi Arabia alongside Al Rajhi Capital.
In 2011, the firm introduced a number of new products to its clients. It attracted strong demand for the newly launched Shariah-compliant repurchase agreements, for example. Société Générale has also developed innovatory indices, including products custom-made for clients.
Société Générale white labels products for some of the Middle East’s best-known financial institutions, including Ahli United Bank of Bahrain and QInvest in Qatar.
