UBS scooped the top prize of Best Global Private Bank. The award was collected by Alain Robert, the bank's vice-chairman of wealth management.
The evening was hosted by Alastair Campbell, who served as head of communications for former UK prime minister Tony Blair.
As the chief spin doctor for a former left-of-centre government, Campbell might have been a little uneasy about speaking in front of those who manage money for the world’s richest people. His former boss, though, seems to have embraced capitalism full-on, given his multi-million pound annual stipend from JPMorgan.
Campbell told the audience he had telephoned his daughter just before going onstage. "She asked me what I was doing tonight. I said I was giving out awards to the world's leading private bankers. She called me a sell-out," Campbell joked.
