2014: a year in data – BRICs

BRICs hit the economic wall

China

It’s been a tough year for emerging markets, with weakening economic growth, a strengthening dollar and declining commodities prices all weighing heavily on risk sentiment. The BRIC economies were notable examples of this trend, with three of the four giants seeing their risk scores deteriorate during 2014. Surprisingly, China’s ECR score improved during the year, suggesting that talk of a brewing credit crisis may be overdone. India will hope to rise after the election of reforming prime minister Modi.
