Citigroup's latest acquisition
Perhaps due to the conformity of their working wardrobes, London's banking community seems to relish any opportunity to dress up as superheroes and pop stars. This year Lehman Brothers' staff had a good excuse to fulfill their sartorial fantasies when the firm sponsored the annual charity skate on Broadgate Ice Rink.
The event, held at the end of October in the heart of the City, was in aid of Sense, the UK's Deafblind and Rubella Association. As sponsor, Lehman Brothers chose the theme of the event: "Dreamers and Achievers of the 20th century" (a cunning allusion to its recent advertising campaign). Thus inspired, the bank's team of ten intrepid skaters dressed up as their favourite modern icons, including Star Wars' Princess Leia, Catwoman, Wonderwoman, perennial chart-topper Cher, several Spice Girls and two of the Beatles. Bob Gei from Lehman's Treasury department got kitted out in 1970s style, but made sure not to catch his flares in his skates.
Other teams getting into the spirit included ABN Amro and Cazenove, as well as several of the city's top law firms.
