Asia 100 1997: Waiting for the impact
Methodology
The rankings were compiled in conjunction with UK rating agency IBCA Limited. All information was supplied by IBCA from banks' consolidated annual reports for the years 1996 and 1997 (1995 figures were used for a number of banks in Australasia and the Indian sub-continent).
All institutions with Asian headquarters whose primary business is taking deposits are eligible for inclusion. Figures are presented, where possible, in consolidated form, including data from non-banking activities. Banks which are owned by other financial institutions are not listed separately, but are consolidated in the parent's figures. Banking groups are limited, however, to those where the parent holds management control over subsidiaries.
