Hasn't the problem of holocaust money been handled badly?
In hindsight, we should have done more 40 years ago. But over the past 12 months, since the banks entered the partnership with the Jewish community under the leadership of [former Federal Reserve chairman] Paul Volcker, I believe it's been handled well. There's nothing to hide; we've done all we had to do. But the topic is so difficult and has so many facets. It's also tremendously embarrassing for the Swiss in many ways and everybody else involved. At the IMF annual meeting in Washington last October, the first thing I did was to go to the Holocaust Museum. It's deeply shocking. It has nothing to do with whether you're Swiss, English or French or whatever. Everyone should go, to see for themselves in the hope that such events could never happen again.
Will there be a solution soon?
I'm convinced there will. We're determined to have the truth confirmed once and for all. We've pulled in resources to objectivize the fact-finding process. I will do my utmost - and so will many of my peers in this country - to accelerate this.
