After several years of underperformance, Lloyds TSB seems to have finally turned a corner, putting in a surprisingly positive performance while some of its competitors, including HBOS and Barclays, have suffered at home from maladies ranging from a loss of market share to bad credit card debts.
The UK’s fifth-largest bank has brought its market share of new mortgages back to respectability after a very poor result last year and has kept bad debts under control.
In a sea of unspectacular results, Lloyds TSB’s turnaround deserves credit and so Euromoney’s award for best bank in the UK this year.
