Having started out as a leading player in the UK sterling bond market, Barclays Capital went on to develop a leading regional franchise in Europe and is now a key player across the whole of the global debt markets. That it is part of the bond bulge bracket, particularly in Europe – is indisputable given its market share in international bond underwriting. In Dealogic’s global DCM league table, out of the European banks only Deutsche Bank is better placed. However, overall deal volume is only one way of measuring a bank’s worth.
