BEST BANK
Bank Muscat
BEST DEBT HOUSE
BNP Paribas
This has not been a vintage year for banking in Oman. But the strongest institution continues to be Bank Muscat, which has a 37% share of deposits and reported a 25.9% growth in net income. Its brokerage unit has been particularly successful, completing two of the largest issues to hit the market during the year.
The best debt house award was won by BNP Paribas for its role as global coordinator and agent to a Suez-Tractebel-led consortium, for their $550 million financing package for the Sohar independent power and water project. The transaction consists of two elements, a $140 million equity bridge loan and $409 million of term facilities.
