Best bank
Banque Commerciale du Maroc
Best equity house
Société Générale Marocaine de Banques
Morocco's oldest domestic bank, Banque Commerciale du Maroc, is also the country's second largest and takes the award for best bank.
It derives its strength and reputation from corporate banking but in the past few years it has been looking to diversify, putting more emphasis on capital markets and other financial services, as well as retail banking. It has over 240 branches, and international offices in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Italy.
Historically BCM has been Morocco's most profitable bank, with the best liquidity ratios in the sector. It also has good asset quality, though this has slipped slightly recently.
The bank will do well to watch its non-performing loans, though. Unprovided NPLs are starting to reduce its strong free capital position.
Principally for its role as global co-ordinator and bookrunner of the Menagem issue, Société Générale Marocaine de Banques stands out as the country's leading equity house.
