The growing pains of foreign exchange


Ian Battye (IB) is director of currency implementation at Russell Investment Group. He is responsible for establishing and developing Russell’s currency implementation business. He joined Russell in 2003, Before that he worked for eight years with State Street Bank and Trust Company. Mr. Battye has a BA in economics (finance) from Monash University in Melbourne.
John Cooley (JC) is chief financial officer of FXall, responsible for finance, business development, legal, and information security. Before joining FXall at its inception, John was HSBC’s chief administrative officer for global fixed income, and started his career at JPMorgan. He received a BA in economics from Yale University in 1982 and an MBA in finance from New York University in 1987.
Scott Freeman (SF) is a managing director with Bank of America and spearheads the bank’s foreign exchange electronic trading initiatives. He was previously at Citigroup for six years, focusing on business development and new initiatives for the firm’s e-FX business. He has a BA from the University of Rochester and a JD from the University of Michigan.
Mark Galant (MG) is the founder and chief executive of GAIN Capital Group, a provider of foreign exchange services to institutional and retail investors in more than 140 countries. A Harvard MBA, he has enjoyed a 25-year Wall Street career, including trading and management roles at such firms as Credit Suisse and Tudor Investment Corp.
Ulf J Lindahl (UL) is chief investment officer at AG Bisset & Co, where he directs the firm’s currency overlay and currency alpha programs. He has a BA in economics from Stockholm School of Economics.
Lee Oliver (LO), who is a senior correspondent on Euromoney magazine, leading its FX commentary, is managing director of Market Media Communications, which provides a wide range of financial research and consultancy services. He is a former FX trader.
Daniel O’Sullivan (DO) joined HSBC in 2003 as a managing director, managing the spot and forward FX business. Before joining HSBC he traded foreign exchange at Goldman Sachs from 1993 to 2000. He also worked at Credit Suisse First Boston in FX trading from 2001 to 2002. He graduated from Harvard University in 1991.
Justyn Trenner (JT) has managed ClientKnowledge since its inception in 1993 and has extensive experience working with global wholesale financial institutions. He and ClientKnowledge have developed original business concepts and working models for customers, assisting in business development, client strategy and performance analytics across a range of institutions and markets.
