Brazilian hedge fund Kairos Asset Management (KAM), are using StreamBase’s complex event processing (CEP) platform to “support high frequency trading strategies across multiple asset classes, including derivatives, foreign exchanges and equities.”
KAM has been using the platform as the basis of its trading systems and algorithmic execution since October last year; it’s the phrase “across multiple asset classes” that is of note.
Trading just one asset class across multiple time zones can be problematic – just when is best liquidity for AUD/BRL? – but to implement and hedge a strategy that comprises different assets that may trade on geographically disparate exchanges is a whole different order of complexity. As Paul Zubulake of Aite group says in the release: “It can be a challenge to execute derivatives trades electronically, particularly with multi-legged strategies across multiple geographies and asset classes.”
the weeklyFiX caught up with Richard Tibbetts, StreamBase’s chief technology officer to ask him exactly what it is that StreamBase offers. “The fundamental architecture of StreamBase CEP makes it very easy for firms to expand their trading strategies to other asset classes such as FX, futures and options,” Tibbetts says. “Since Kairos has successfully developed algos for equity trading, it is fairly straightforward for them to apply the same experience and knowledge that already have to build algos in the derivatives market.
