Regular readers of Front End will know that here at Euromoney we appreciate the occasional sweet treat (see Euromoney, July 2011). So many thanks to the corp comms team at UBS for the delivery of some tasty, if gaudy, cupcakes to coincide with the launch of a new twitter feed from its Emea business.
Along with the cakes came a book that amused us all. Called Twitterature, it aims to retell classic novels through the medium of twitter.
Here are some classics in their own right. The Aeneid, for example, kicks off: "Got a gift of a huge wooden horse today, here in Troy. Just appeared outside the city gate. BTW: War going poorly."
Or, if alive today, might Dickens have begun Great Expectations thus: "My sister is such a bitch! And her husband, talk about pussy-whipped. I’m going out on the marshes. I hate this place."
This led us to think how some of the seminal works on the financial crisis might be retold.
For example, Andrew Ross Sorkin’s Too big to fail might begin: "It’s the goddam weekend and we’re off to the Fed to save the world #fuckdickfuld".
And Michael Lewis’s entire book, The Big Short, could perhaps be reworked thus: "LOL! Fuck you. I’m short your house!"
