Do companies give an Ofex?

The recent news that Cherokee, an entertainment company, was listing on Ofex - which stands for off-exchange - was greeted in the City of London with smirks and raised eyebrows.

Cherokee is an adult entertainment company, specializing in strip joints.

Stock exchanges have always been open to companies that can demonstrate financial accountability, regardless of how they are born.

Northern and Shell, a company which does a great deal of business in the soft-core porn industry, has had a listing on the London stock exchange for a number of years.

Ofex is less regulated than the main board or the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), and is often the first port of call for any small company looking to finance any amount up to £1 million. A quick flick through the Ofex monthly review reveals that Cherokee is in good company.

Ron Woods, the guitarist of Rolling Stones fame, is hoping to raise £2 million for Harrington Clubs through Ofex to turn it into a health club. Waste management is another area where Ofex is proving to be the exchange of choice, with Re-Waste and Zardah Separation both planning to become proud owners of a spotlessly clean Ofex listing.
