Lehman Brothers' trials and tribulations with its wayward chef continue (see Euromoney, November 2002).
The bank says it is outraged after an industrial tribunal decided it had unfairly dismissed Bruce Sangster, an executive chef, from a £57,000-a-year post early last year. Lehman fired Sangster after he sent a pornographic email. The bank is considering an appeal. "We feel that it is totally unreasonable for the tribunal to have found that Sangster was unfairly and wrongfully dismissed," says Lehman.
Sangster's victory was limited - the tribunal reduced a compensation award by 75% and found that he contributed to his own dismissal and that his conduct was culpable and blameworthy.
