Bolivia is in political turmoil, and it is hard to place a large amount of trust in any bank. But Banco Bisa has a strong franchise, is the largest private bank in the country, and has a noteworthy vote of confidence in the form of a 9% shareholding by the International Finance Corporation. Assets were $606 million in 2003.
