Equity market round-up: The month in numbers

18,000,000,000 the dollar volume of ECM deals that was expected to be executed in December 2006 in the EMEA region, according to Dealogic. $244 billion was raised in the first 11 months of the year, up 9% on full-year 2005, making the amount of money raised in ECM deals in 2006 the highest on record.

82,100,000,000 the dollar volume of ECM deals backed by financial sponsors in the first 11 months of 2006. The growth in financial-sponsor backed transactions kept pace with overall ECM volume growth, increasing by 9% from full-year 2005, making 2006 a record year for sponsor-backed deals too.

62 The percentage increase in the number of trades on the LSE’s Sets order book in November 2006 over the same month in 2005. No wonder Nasdaq refuses to give up and has launched yet another bid. The increase in the value of trades, at 36%, however, was only about half as great, rising to £141 billion.
