I made the mistake of asking someone I know at HBOS if he had heard whether or not he had a job now that the bank has been consumed by the dead donkey sometimes known as Lloyds.
“No,” was his terse response.
“So what do you do all day?” I enquired.
“It’s like waiting for Godot,” he moaned.
“We wait. We are bored. No, don’t protest, we are bored to death, there’s no denying it. Good. A diversion comes along and what do we do? We let it go to waste... In an instant all will vanish and we’ll be alone once more, in the midst of nothingness!” he might have added.
But word does reach me that Nigel Coupland has got the job as director of FX. This is a trading role, but at the time of writing it seemed nobody was sure of more details and whether or not he gets to direct spot, forwards and options or just one part of the business. Lloyds has confirmed Coupland’s title, but not his responsibilities.
