The plastic model of a dinosaur placed prominently in the London office meeting room of the agency brokerage founded by Glen Grossman is an unusual ornament to have in a room where guests are greeted. But it makes sense when Grossman explains the core values that he tries to instil into his firm. "An agency brokerage is a hard business, especially in the US where the regulatory environment is so onerous," says Grossman. He founded Dinosaur in 2001, its quirky name was based on a joke he and a former colleague at Cantor Fitzgerald made in the late 1990s when electronic trading was the new big thing; that they would have set up a firm for old dinosaurs like themselves who believed in the primacy of trust and relationships above all else.
The first lawyer Grossman approached to incorporate the firm thought the name so frivolous that he refused the instruction despite being an old school friend.
